Academy of
Coaching Effectiveness
Lead the way
a Coach Does
The best leaders don’t have all the answers — they know how to bring out the answers in the people around them. The Coach Approach to Leadership is a two-day, hands-on program that teaches the essential skills of professional coaching to leaders who want to use them every day, without enrolling in a full coach training program.
Developed by Coach U, a pioneer in coach training since 1992, the program is delivered through Common Boundaries Wellness by Debbie Gawrych, a Coaching Clinic Licensed Facilitator, certified by Coach U. It’s designed for groups — leadership teams, management cohorts, and departments — and is most often brought directly into the workplace.
Who it’s for
- Managers and supervisors who want their teams to take more ownership
- Executives and senior leaders building a coaching culture
- HR and talent development professionals
- Team leads, project managers, and anyone who leads through influence
- Organizations that want a shared leadership language across departments
No prior coaching experience is needed.
What you’ll learn
Over two interactive days, participants practice the core competencies of coaching and apply them to real leadership situations:
- Listening at a deeper level— hearing what’s said, what isn’t, and what matters most
- Asking powerful questions— creating clarity and insight instead of supplying answers
- Shifting from telling to developing— helping people grow their own judgment and capability
- Giving and receiving feedback— in a way that builds trust rather than defensiveness
- Coaching through performance, conflict, and change— holding conversations that move things forward
- Knowing when to coach and when not to— matching the approach to the moment
The program is highly experiential. Participants spend most of their time practicing with each other, working on the actual conversations and challenges they face at work.
What you’ll take back to work
- Practical tools you can use the next day in one-on-ones, team meetings, and difficult conversations
- Greater engagement and accountability from the people you lead
- Less time solving problems for others, and more time developing people who solve their own
- A common framework that strengthens communication across your organization
Format
- Two consecutive days, or two days scheduled to fit your organization
- Delivered on-site or virtually
- Group sizes tailored to your team; content can be customized to your culture and goals
- Certified Coach U curriculum
